Conclusion
The experiment demonstrates the process of osmosis through observing the eggs’ reaction in different solutions. If I haven’t done this experiment, I may have never known the difference of hypertonic solutions and hypotonic solutions. My hypothesis was supported by the fact that the egg in the colored water absorbed 10ml of the water and expanded to 65.5 g. The egg in the corn syrup shrank for about 25.2 g and the water level went up to 175mL. The independent variable in this experiment was the different type of solutions we used. The hypotonic solution was the colored water and the hypertonic solution was the corn syrup. The dependent variable was the movement of water, which is also known as osmosis and how different type of solution affects the egg and the solution. The controlled variables were two eggs of the same kind, same room temperature and same amount of solution. The result of the experiment confirms that osmosis is water movement from a place of high concentration to a place of low concentration.
